Accessing federal and state funds for sustainable homebuilders

When it comes to new residential construction, the federal government’s favorite color is green. The 2009 American Recovery and Reinvestment Act (ARRA), signed into law in February 2009, designated billions of dollars to support green-building projects, as well as energy-efficiency and renewable-energy programs across the country. Federal grants and tax incentives for green homebuilding, improved energy efficiency and sustainable retrofits, as well as low-income housing and community development, are making it more financially viable than ever for homebuilders to go green by offering them unprecedented financial incentives.
